Learn to Swim
The Learn to Swim course prepares each swimmer with the fundamentals of all swimming strokes and safety skills including body positioning, breath control and kicking.  Having the correct fundamental building blocks to the strokes will allow swimmers to start developing their stroke easier and more efficiently.

Learn to Swim One Entry Requirements:
Water Exploration Three certification or completed assessment from Swim am byth supervisors 
What you'll learn (units):
  • Child understanding of safe entries and exits
  • Blowing bubbles in the water for 5 seconds
  • Pressing face in the water for 5 seconds
  • Submerging the whole body under the water for 5 seconds
  • Floating in a supine position for 5 seconds
Completion Requirements:
Swimmers must successfully complete each unit of study to meet the course requirements and graduate with a Learn to Swim One certification.
 
Learn to Swim Two Entry Requirements:
Learn to Swim One certification or completed assessment from Swim am byth supervisors 
What you'll learn (units):
  • ​Retrieving an object from the pool floor
  • Floating in a prone position for 5 seconds
  • Streamlining in a prone position
  • Reaching and pulling in a prone position for 4 metres
  • Kicking using an aid for 4 metres
Completion Requirements:
Swimmers must successfully complete each unit of study to meet the course requirements and graduate with a Learn to Swim Two certification.
 
Learn to Swim Three Entry Requirements:
Learn to Swim Two Certification or completed assessment from Swim am byth supervisors 
What you'll learn (units):
  • ​Jumping into deep water and returning to the side safely
  • ​Retrieving an object from the pool floor with eyes open
  • Streamlining in a prone and a supine position
  • Kicking in a streamline prone position for 5 metres
  • Swimming with correct body position and basic technique for 5 metres
Completion Requirements:
Swimmers must successfully complete each unit of study to meet the course requirements and graduate with a Learn to Swim Three certification.
 
Learn to Swim Four Entry Requirements:
Learn to Swim Three certification or completed assessment from Swim am byth supervisors 
What you'll learn (units):
  • ​Swimming through a hoop, eyes open with breath control
  • Controlled floating position, prone or supine for 7 seconds
  • Kicking in a streamline supine position for 5 metres
  • Swimming with correct body position and basic technique in a supine position for 5 metres
  • Swimming with correct body position and basic technique in a prone position for 7 metres
Completion Requirements:
Swimmers must successfully complete each unit of study to meet the course requirements and graduate with a Learn to Swim Four certification.
 
Learn to Swim Five Entry Requirements:
Learn to Swim Four certification or completed assessment from Swim am byth supervisors 
What you'll learn (units):
  • Floating in a star position, prone or supine for 10 seconds
  • Swimming in prone position for 5 metres, rolling to supine then continue for 5 metres
  • Kicking in a streamline prone position for 10 metres
  • Swimming with correct body position and basic technique in a supine position for 7 metres
  • Swimming with correct body position and basic technique in a prone position for 10 metres
Completion Requirements:
Swimmers must successfully complete each unit of study to meet the course requirements and graduate with a Learn to Swim Five certification.
